Icebreaker

Ok, here is an icebreaking question...
What is your favorite ingredient?

Ah, for me? It is a tie between
Hyaluronic acid and DMAE...there are so many, though!

What's your current favorite?

Hi Anita, glad you got this going. As for me my favorite ingredient at the moment is HA also. I also like msm and niacinimide, which is toted as being one of the main ingredients in the total effects range. I'm looking forward to meeting other ladies and getting together to discuss beauty secrets that help us stay young, feel excited and pro-active in our beauty routines.

Anita!

I'm so happy you started this website/blog about beauty products.

As you know I'm one of your ebay customers and I've learned so much from you - just by reading your auctions!

My favorite is DMAE, because it has so many applications. I add it to my moisturizer, use it for the toner recipe you sent me, and even add a small amount to my beeswax lip balm. It has made a noticable difference in my skin tone within just a few weeks of use.

So glad I found you!

Welcome Laura!

I am SO GLAD to have you both here! So GLAD you answered the call! Please email your addresses to me at
csr@dnashopper.com
You are the first original two!

Wait until you hear some of the stuff I have been reading - and by reading, this time, I mean from actual old, dusty books! I started to think about how some of the best ingredients were the old ones... Like why does caffeine work for puffy undereyes and cellulite...but we need fancy Argireline to relax the muscles to keep wrinkles from forming? I have hit upon and compiled some awesome recipes, regimes and methods for almost any skin condition (including normal preventive) that you can think of!

Helium has just welcomed me as an author, too, so I will need to read more than ever! I hope that's good for everyone - because I plan on sharing it right here :-)
Thank you so much!

Anita waht a great idea! I have seen such great results using all of the ingrediants it is hard to tell which one is doing the best job. I can see immediate results with both the DMAE and the argireline. I also love the lip balm you have formulated. I would like to ask if anyone has a suggestion of how to target the lines around the lips. From years of smoking(I have quit for 5+ years) and tanning mine are horrible! Hello to all and I look forward to learning and sharing with everyone.

Welcome Robin~!
It's so great to see you here! Yes! So far, I use each of these ingredients every day! I am using the Argireline and HA solution at a straight 100% right out of the bottle. I put the Argireline on my skin where the "11" marks would form between my eyebrows because apparently at night I may scowl! I use the same 1/2 oz. bottle that I sell with the European dropper and dot directly on those spots I would like to freeze or paralyze right after I dry my face before bed. I follow up with Best Ever Toner which is steeped in DMAE and then go direct with the HA fluid, followed by a new, light oil concoction I am testing for release for under eyes! My under eye circles are disappearing and I still do not get enough sleep! Thanks to the caffeine, the puffiness is so reduced that my co-workers at my day job are almost completely fooled! hahaha

Oils are amazing... One of the coolest things I have learned this week (have been learning a lot as I have been on an old-book reading spree, so this is good!) is about skin tags. I did not know what that was when I first saw it in print.

Skin tags.

Odd...? Then it was further described as those unattractive flesh pieces hanging from around the neck and/or underarms of a beloved older relative...and I thought "Mom!". The usual remedies were mentioned, burning, freezing all done by a doctor, but then I found something amazing on the subject. (And it is also another of my favorite ingredients having so many uses!) It was stated that if you place a drop of this certain oil...Yes, I know I sound like Kevin Trudeau, leading you, but never saying the answer... Here's the answer! Castor oil! They are saying in the older books that if you put a corn/callus pad around a "skin tag", and apply straight castor oil, no mixing required, that it will dissolve skin tags over a month's time! I couldn't believe it! Wonderful castor oil? That fantastic oil that helps eyebrow hair growth? That unselfish oil that departs glowing shine to the lips of the fair maidens (and maids, too!)? Yes! Castor oil! So I am trying it, as...alas...the skin tags are beginning to form and blurt out my age to unsuspecting bystanders at the most inconvenient times. Gone will be the surprise from people's eyes when they have decided I may be 30-something, but then spy a skin tag on my neck! Well, I know the first little tag that is about to get ripped - and I have tried snipping it, burning it, freezing it..it always comes back. Perhaps a little Castor Bean Oil is all it ever needed! Please look for it in our store... I am going to stock up soon and will offer it in different sizes. Since not much of the thick, heavy oil is needed for usual recipes, I will begin with a 1oz. bottle, 2 oz. bottle...keep it cost effective for those of use who would like a little bottle just for skin tags!

First 25, please remember to send me your shipping address (I want to make sure I do not use outdated info)~! I think that the first 5 in particular will be very happy! There is also a new little discovery at DNAshopper...it has gone as a sample only - one time to Japan - to a very patient angel who I hope becomes one of the top 5, too! Hint: it is great for under eyes... and we have never carried it or talked about it yet! It will be listed in the store soon...

Hmm Ill be interested to know what the product is. After having laser surgery three years ago around my eyes I still have a few deeper lines under my eyes and slight crows feet. Though the area looks ok I would love to stop more from forming. Would the Argireline prevent this? Also I am applying a tretinoin based cream along with an estriol cream to my whole face keep the lines at bay. I have been using the Gernetics range of products for over a year and while they are nice I am looking to making my own products now that use ingredients that work so I can save the money. Finding your ebay sight is a blessing. Anita, or anyone else, instructions on creams, and lotions and there correct ingredient ratio would be great. God bless.

Hello,
I am interested in finding out what products are safe to use around and especially on the upper lid which are getting that crepy look. I have been using a vit. C cream from La Roche-Posay but I would like to make my own and was wondering if any of the ingredients would be safe in that area.
I also use argireline straight and have been using much higher concentrations of all of the ingredients. Is this safe with all or should I be careful with some? So far I have not had any adverse effects. I did have the Iddebonne and the alpha lipotic clump in my last toner mix. I tried to mix the Iddebone with a little alcohol first but it stil clumped and I am not sure if it is too drying to have the alcohol in it. It doesn't feel or smell as nice as yours......what do you add to make yours smell so nice?
I am also trying to figure out how to make a moisturizer using the sodium without adding any oil. Can it be used straight also? I try to steer clear of oil because of my adult acne. Any suggestions?

As always, Thank you so much and I too am so glad I found you! It is great to see a picture of you and you do have beautiful skin. Can I ask your age? You do look 30 something. It would be great if we could all put pictures!

HA for me too - was used on horses intra-articularly for joint problems successfully then trickled down to injectable use for humans then topically with good results. I use the flat eye- liner brush to lay it right in a crease or wrinkle and it's great. I use it on my lips at night followed by glycerine as a night treatment.

Hello! Yes! I am so pleased with this group and it will be even better when the forum is up. As with most things I do, I went to just start a forum and found that unless I pay for it to be built and hosted, I have to learn stuff ;-) That's ok...so now I will add MySQL to the list of skills on my resume that no one reads! Well, maybe not NOW>..not...yet!

I would say that HA has helped the most with "crepy" (sp, anyone?) eyes, though my thin fabric hangs below my eyes. Actually...whatever it is that I have mixed up...it does not hang anymore! And the dark circles are leaving with the new surprise weapon that will be arriving to each of you soon...

I was really worried about using HA in my eye area. I thought logically about it - and that was wrong. I thought it may contribute to puffiness, but the caffeine counters it perfectly, or it was never a problem! I do not want to go back and see! I say put on the HA directly from the bottle! Mix it yourself to save money and insure the consistency and freshness you crave. There are a few things I am using that I haven't talked about much: AK 47 (c)(R)TM (on its way, Top 5! Not even listed yet!), ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid), Squalene (Olive source), Albumen, Idebenone/CoQ10, HA (Hyaluronic Acid - I haven't mentioned around eyes much). Also, DMAE - I was afraid it would stimulate the flow of more blood to make circles darker, but the firming action FAR outweighs even the thought that it could happen. I have to say that over the summer my skin is just unnaturally great! Of course I stay out of the sun for the most part and use a spray tan, a little to look alive....but we must be onto some wondrous things, people! I have heard similar comments from many of you and I just LOVE turning back time. It is not so much about vanity, but just keeping things healthy and we know that saggy, dark circles, wrinkles, acne, all of these conditions are indications that there may be health issues.

So, if you know that you need to eat better, exercise more, get more sleep (I know!), then make an effort to get it. That means consciously counting the hours you need, figuring when you need to get to bed and then actually doing it. Maybe you cannot fall right asleep...I love hypnosis CDs and have been losing weight with them, too! They first relax, then ... I fall asleep, but I have lost weight and you still do not see wrinkles on me! Truly incredible at 44, I think, and I am saying this from a 3rd person point of view! People at work keep coming very, very close to my face and looking intently while they (or I~!) talk... It's very odd and I did not get it for a while until someone came out and said it! I would also like to say that I have a co-worker who should stay in my good graces, hee hee, because she looks a LOT younger and healthier now than she did 6+ years ago and she's 51.

I would think of Argireline as a paralyzer. It is not really THAT strong, but that is the intended use, clearlipstick :-) So at night, dab a dot on the OUTER edge of your eye, not right in the crow's feet...because you intend to "paralyze" the crow-creating muscle during the night. In the daytime, you can control (hopefully!) your facial expressions - not to be a zombie! - but to stop any nervous ticks or squinting~! When you catch yourself squinting at the sun, just relax, and you'll notice a difference after one day. That's why Botox works, but you have the added benefit of not just crippling the wrinkle-maker, but firming and toning, too!

Robin, I use the clear lip balms all outside my lip line! Even the Night~Time Formula - I use it ALL OVER where lip lines used to be! I smoked for probably 20 years, so I understand the difficulties you are facing and really respect your will power and strength, which is why you are invited to the Top 5 :-) (All of you!) The eyes and lips require very similar treatments, except the eyes you may wish to lighten with Vitamin C, Idebenone/CoQ10 (use warmer water and lots of agitation-shake it, girl! If it is oil, room temp should be fine and-shake it, girl! tee hee), AK 47, etc. The lips tend to fade with age, so we really need to increase circulation, reinforce the color and still treat for firming, dryness and anti-wrinkle.

...I am just learning to embrace oils after all this time with shea butter! I have found that adding salicylic acid to the oils really keeps away the adult acne - and adding tea tree oil. The oils are all very, very light, however, I am really only using Squalene in the mix... I need to get the recipe adjusted, bottled and out for Christmas stockings! Make that Halloween! Maybe not so much on the packaging as usual...Although that really seems to hurt my profit margin, I draw people who could use the help, too, just like me and that's excellent!
Pictures is an EXCELLENT idea and something that will be an option in the forum, for sure. You can post them here, too, and if you like, I will host the picture for free :-) Just email it to me, I will upload it and send you the link. I think that if you upload one here in your profile, you can say whether or not to display it. I put mine up so no one would be shy ;-) It's not the best picture of me, but it's recent and I love that color green!

Dee mentions to put the HA right in the place where the line is, would be or used to be - excellent! You are more precise than I am about the placement and I think that's great! Dee mixes her own HA and it is probably almost a solid, then voila! It is painted into a line - brilliant, Dee!

It is such an odd conincidence that glycerine got mentioned and, Dee, you can probably help me with this...Dee knows her stuff, people! I was going to write a "new" (nothing new under the sun!) blog and/or article about my confusion and subsequent anger at glycerine... I always wondered why Bush did the song "Glycerine" and what were they saying and what did it mean? Then whilst dusting off the old beauty treasuries circa 1975 (gasp!), I found a little snippet by noted beauty author, Virginia Castleton, "Fissured skin, for example, could come from the inclusion of glycerine in a cosmetic preparation. Glycerine is abundantly used in cosmetics today, even though it can irritate and dry the skin. It is a by-product of soap manfacture and, according to Charles Perry, English nutritionist and beautician, is toxic in cumulative amounts. Glycerin mixed with water or some other suitable liquid acts as a moisturizing agent when it is applied to the skin. But rather than act as a humectant, which attracts moisture from the air, glycerine first draws whatever moisture it can from the underlying tissues of the skin itself. Because it absorbs this water from the tissues, glycerin keeps the body in a state of dependence. As long as glycerin is applied, the external skin surface will have some semblemce of elasticity and softness. But when the applications cease, the skin takes on a dry, raspy feel. Any preparation containing glycerin, then, can be damaging to delicate skin tissues. Though our grandmothers had many delightful, marvelously effective beauty aids, they also had a few, such as glycerin water, that could be damaging." from "The Handbook of Natural Beauty" by Virginia Castelton 1975.

Now, I don't know about you, but this REALLY P*SSED me off! I had been formulating all kinds of things without glycerin... I always read the labels and ingredients of everything I can get my hands on and glycerin is ALMOST ALWAYS on the list. So, naturally, I thought that I should be using it. Surely it has the benefits I am looking for...though I had a vague recollection of staying away from mineral oil and glycerine for some reason... I was going to stock up on it, sell it, make it a regular "guy"! Now I remember that the thing about it is it is like camphor and draws first all the moisture it can from your own body, then from the air... and it can keep you dependent on a skin care line. I will possibly be stoned for (re-)writing this, but maybe no one will notice! They used to say that you had to keep using a certain lip product or your lips would dry out... Great customer base, eh? I don't think so! I have absolutely LOVED the last few years, waking up for the 1st time in my life with moist lips even in the winter! If the products I had been using contained glycerine and that is why my lips cracked and bled all my life until now...well REALLY P*SSED~! I picked up almost every product at Rite Aid the other day and very close to the first ingredients (most), glycerine again and again... and I thought perhaps they read the same book, but had a different idea... Please set me straight on this one! Tell me I am missing something! Although, if you apply the same situation to the song, Glycerin by Bush...well, that would make sense! Sucks the life out of you...you're ok while it's on, but not when it's away? Add to that the fact that it does, in fact, heat up to become the "warm" in warming oil... wow. I am going to look for an alternative :-) Wish me happy hunting and someone tell me if I am missing something - after all, this book was published in 1975! But it's a fantastic book and I highly recommend it. It is filled with recipes and specific recommendations. Sorry so long! This was going to be a separate one...

Hi Ginamarie!
I knew you could do it! Welcome!

Ok, no, I have not shipped anything out yet. I am looking for the correct containers... I had everything ready, then waited overnight which turned out to be good - leaky containers... Soooo... I may end up sending a more finished product than ingredient while I discern and obtain what type of container AK 47 will need. Wish me luck! I will post here when shipping, so just check back and feel free to start another thread, carry on, etc.

Hi Anita and ladies!!

Thank you for the invite -- I have the HA that I bought from you on Ebay & the sample of DMAE you so kindly sent and I have absolutely NO IDEA of what to do with them :)
For a little background of what I am looking for, I am 49, mom of 4, been in the Florida sun for the last 25 years, and am also a ex smoker, quit 5 yrs ago.
Have bad undereye circles and little puffiness, have the smokers mouth, starting to get "jowls" (augh I hate that work) . And to top it off I have a thin face which makes it all look worse!
And the right side of my face - the one I sleep on, seems to be falling a little faster than my left.
I have tried alot of products, some cheap and some higher priced, nothing seems to do too much.
I do love Squalane although its greasy. And I do love Neutrogena Toner.
Can I take the DMAE and HA and add it to regular moisturizer? Or did I read that I can just put the HA on my face straight from the bottle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Robin said...

Hi Barbara, I am new to mixing potions too and still feel a bit clueless. What I have been doing is combining the ingredients for the best ever toner(with heaping scoops)in distilled water and using that plus mixing HA and ALA together with a little water and it comes out as a gel that I apply. I also mix the DMAE w/ water alone and apply for instant toning. I hope this helps. Robin
